Adding products is one of the most important tasks when managing a WooCommerce store. WordPress provides a structured product editor where you can enter product information, pricing, images, and categories so customers can easily view and purchase items from your store.
This guide walks through the steps to add a new product in WooCommerce from your WordPress dashboard.

Step 1: Log in to Your WordPress Dashboard
First, access the admin area of your WordPress website.
- Open your browser and go to your login page.
Example: yourwebsite.com/wp-admin - Enter your username and password.
- Click Log In.
After logging in, you will be taken to the WordPress dashboard, where you can manage products, pages, and other site settings.
Step 2: Navigate to Add New Product
Next, open the product creation page.
- In the left-hand side panel, locate Products.
- Click Products or hover over it.
- Select Add New.
This will open the product editor, where you can enter all the necessary details for your new product.
Step 3: Enter the Product Details
At the top of the product editor, enter the product name and description.
Product Name
Add a clear and descriptive product title. Examples: Wireless Headphones, Men’s Casual Sneakers, Stainless Steel Water Bottle
Choose a name that is simple, specific, and easy for customers to understand.
Product Description
Below the title field, you will find the main description editor.
Use this section to provide detailed information about the product, such as: Key features, Materials or specifications, Product benefits, Usage instructions
A well-written description improves user understanding and can also boost search engine visibility.
Before configuring product data, move to the right-hand sidebar to add images and organize your product.
Set the Product Image
This is the main image customers will see on your store and product pages.

Upload a new image or select one from the media library

Add Product Gallery Images
The product gallery allows you to showcase multiple images.

Assign a Product Category
Categories help organize your store and improve navigation.

Find the Product Categories panel

Select an existing category

Step 4: Configure Product Data
Scroll down to the Product Data panel. This section controls the product type, pricing, inventory, and other important settings.
Product Type
Select the appropriate product type:
- Simple product – A standard product with no variations.
- Variable product – A product with options like size or color.
- Grouped product – A collection of related products.
- External/Affiliate product – A product sold on another website.
General Settings
In the General tab, enter:
- Regular Price
- Sale Price (optional)
Inventory (Optional)
In the Inventory tab, you can manage stock settings such as:
- SKU
- Stock quantity
- Stock status
Linked Products
The Linked Products tab allows you to add:
- Upsells – Products you recommend instead of the current product.
- Cross-sells – Products shown during checkout to encourage additional purchases.
Attributes
Attributes define product characteristics such as:
- Size
- Color
- Material
Attributes are especially useful for variable products.
Variations (For Variable Products)
If you selected Variable Product, you can create variations based on attributes.
Example:
- T-Shirt → Size: Small, Medium, Large
- Color: Red, Blue, Black
Each variation can have its own price, stock status, and image.
Step 5: Publish the Product
Once all the required details are filled in:
- Review the product information.
- Click Publish in the top-right corner.
Your product will now be live and visible in your WooCommerce store.
